5 Tips to Make Your Bedroom Smell Its Best

Bedroom Smell

An ideal bedroom should be clean, fresh, and gently fragranced with natural aromas. In your bedroom, you will spend at least a third of your life. Therefore, you do not want to be breathing air that is dusty, musty, and stinky. If this is the case, it will only reduce the tranquility of your living quarters and diminish the power of good sleep at night.

If your bedroom has an overflowing laundry basket, dirty dishes near the bed, smelly gym socks, or a stinking dog bed next to your own. Find a routine to clean up your room first to make it easier to use natural ways to make your bedroom smell better with the tips below.

Wash the sheets

Clean, soft bedsheets are comfortable in any bed. But, the same sheets absorb fluids, bodily oils, and dust in the air every day you use them. For this reason, you should not go too long without a laundry day, for the sheets will start to smell funky.

To keep your room smelling fresh, strip your bed and wash them weekly and more often if you sleep with your pets or are susceptible to allergies. Take it a step further and change your sleepy’s mattress cover too and for the pillowcases, change daily. Not only will this help your room smell fresh, but your complexion will look its best always.

Open the windows

Opening the windows is the fastest way to have a fresh-smelling room. Opening the windows allows fresh air to pour in and sunlight as well. Unless you live in an industrial area or busy freeway, the air inside your home is of low quality than the air outside. Thus, make it a habit to open your bedroom windows every morning as long as weather and privacy permit.

This lifts your mood, energy and your room smells fresher. Notably, ensure your windows and window curtains are clean, for they also trap dust and pollen contributing to the smell in your room.

Use a DIY air freshener

To freshen up your bedroom without using synthetic scents but a pleasing fragrance is possible with a DIY air freshener. It is easy to make one and out of natural ingredients. The things you need are a cup of distilled water, a clean spray bottle, three tablespoons of rubbing alcohol, and 15 to 20 drops of your favorite essential oils.

You can use a single scent or combine it with relaxation-enhancing oils such as lavender, bergamot, chamomile, and rose. Mix all ingredients in your spray bottle and use it in your cleanroom and around the house.

Freshen the carpet

Most people prefer using a carpet for their bedroom flooring. A carpet muffles temperature and sound, it’s comfortable to walk on, and it adds considerable impact to the décor of your bedroom. But, it has a downside, for it holds onto mold, bacteria, pollen, and grunge from the bottom of your shoes or your feet. Over time, all these nasties give off a bad smell. In such cases, use baking soda to deodorize your carpet for its cheap and easy use instead of using other harsh chemicals.

To do this, sprinkle baking soda over your carpet after an hour or less, vacuum it away. To maintain cleanliness, remove your shoes before entering your room and use slippers to walk around your room. In this way, you reduce any dirt in your room from your shoes.

DIY reed diffuser

You can get a reed diffuser in two ways, buy one or make one. But, the cheaper option is making a DIY reed diffuser. To do this, all you need is a vase or glass jar with a narrow top, a few bamboo skewers, a quarter cup of safflower oil or sweet almond, and 20 drops of your favorite essential oil.

Choose one with soothing scents such as jasmine, lavender, sandalwood, or vanilla. Stir everything together, add to the vase and arrange the skewers into a bouquet. Then, set it on your nightstand. More importantly, be patient, for it can take up to two days for the scent to make its way up the skewers.
