Car accident Statistics per year in the US

When you talk about the causes of death in the US, about 50+ people die regularly in car accidents. This continues to be one of the major causes of death.

People not following road safety measures have led to a rise in the number of deaths. This not only affects the passengers and drivers but also the passersby who are in no way involved in the accident. 

Typical Cause of accidents in the US 

According to NHTSA, about 30-40% of the accidents occur due to drunk & drive. You’ll be shocked to hear that 9% of the deaths have occurred on footpaths and people who were no way involved in the accident have died.

Since 1990 there have been more than 1200+ deaths which is a huge number. Wait till you read this, for every 100 million vehicles traveled in the US there is a possibility of 1.85 deaths. 

There are about 6 million annual car accidents in the US and about 35% of these accidents lead to at least one death.

It is quite shocking to see despite the United States having some of the strictest road safety laws suffer this much when it comes to fatalities. There are several laws that we have been put in place to avoid such mishaps. 

Driving under influence is a serious offense and there are also strict laws against not wearing seat belts. Despite enforcing these laws there are still increases in death rates.

When a survey was taken by Sweeney Merrigan, it was found that about 39% of car accidents happen due to distractions.
