From time to time, your home needs to go through changes for you to feel comfortable in it. The living room is probably the room where you spend most of your time in, so it’s best if the changes happen there.
The good thing is there are interior design tips and tricks that don’t take too much of your time. They are quite simple to do but their effect is huge.

1. Add layers for a luxurious touch
Great pillows are one of the simplest ways to quickly dress up a room, also there are other great ways to make your space looks luxurious. You may think that they are usually quite expensive but there’s a solution. Pay a visit to the local fabric store where lovely scraps are usually sold for a discount up to even 90%.
It’s then easy to find a tailor who will take from 10 to $20 per pillow but you can sew the pillows yourself if you’re crafty enough. You just need to get some feather inserts and you’re ready to go. In case you have some fabric left that’s more than 2 yards longer, you can make a throw from it.
Bear in mind that a lovely, oversized throw combined with pillows spread around really makes a room expensive.
2. Three colors for a specific style
Maybe this sounds like a big change but you actually don’t have to do a lot if your basis is good. Every room should have three dominant colors that make up a style. One color is for the walls, the other is for larger accents like chairs and sofa, while the third color is reserved for small details, like the flowers, pillows and other decorative items.
So, if you don’t want to invest too much time in this, then leave the color of the walls or the bigger pieces of furniture be, and work out the other two colors that go well with it.
Some people find it easier to simply change the color of the walls and bring a big change. If that’s trouble for you, then determine which accent color would best compliment the other two colors and then add a few decorative items like bowls, vases or chandeliers of that color.
3. Have breath-taking flooring
Don’t worry, this isn’t about changing your tiles for something else – it’s quite an amount of work that would take at least a couple of days.
A much simpler and equally effective change would be to get a new rug. The larger the rug is, the better the effect will be.
Make the rug the focus of the room – let it be unique in pattern, luscious and soft. It will be eye-catching and will instantly change the feeling of the living room. And what’s best, you don’t even have to go anywhere and waste time in shops; you simply browse an online rug shop, find what suits you and have it delivered.
4. Elegant draperies
Depending on how big your windows are, the draperies will partially affect the look of the living room. There is one important rule you need to follow here – never buy draperies that are too short. They will look cheap and won’t have a strong effect. Measure the windows before you go to the shop but know that you can also make your own draperies if you feel up for it. Get a sheer, lightweight fabric, preferably cotton, and take it to a tailor. If in doubt, stick to black curtain rods and brackets, as they are inexpensive and are not too flashy.
5. A piece of furniture as the centerpiece
Take a good look at your living room – is it filled with small, simple pieces of furniture? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who has made that mistake. A lot of chairs, tables, and decorative items will make the room crowded and without character.
First, think about what items you could remove from the room to open up space. Then focus on what large piece of furniture could become the center of the room. For example, you could buy a large sofa (if you don’t have it already) and then just add two slender chairs that accompany it.
Even if you have a small living room, don’t be afraid to have a bigger piece of furniture that will catch the viewer’s eye, like a cabinet or an armoire. Go for a mixture of big and small in every aspect, so stick to it when it comes to decorative items, too.
